Planning Your Online Nikah from USA
If you plan to sponsor your spouse, read the USCIS rule on proxy marriages first. US immigration law does not treat a marriage where the parties were not physically together as a marriage for immigration purposes unless it was later consummated. Speak to a US immigration attorney before relying on an online nikah for a petition.

Pakistan Embassy & Consulate Services in USA
The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C. and the Pakistan consulates in New York, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles provide NICOP, passport and attestation services.
You will need them for your NICOP or passport and to attest the power of attorney that appoints your wakeel in Pakistan.
Time Difference with Pakistan
The US East Coast is 10 hours behind Pakistan in winter and 9 hours behind in summer; the West Coast is 13 or 12 hours behind. A 9pm ceremony in Karachi is 11am or noon in New York.

Using Your Marriage Certificate in USA
For a US spouse petition (I-130), USCIS asks for the marriage certificate with a certified English translation. Under US immigration law, a proxy marriage is only recognised for immigration once it has been consummated, so the facts of your case matter.
Online Nikah Requirements for Pakistanis in USA
The standard checklist for a wakeel nikah in Pakistan. We confirm the final list after reviewing your documents.
- CNIC, NICOP or passport
- Copies of the CNIC or NICOP and passport of both partners. Names and dates of birth should match across documents — differences are easier to fix before the Nikah Nama is filled in.
- Two adult witnesses
- CNIC copies and contact details of the witnesses who will be present at the nikah in Pakistan.
- Wakeel and power of attorney
- The partner abroad appoints a wakeel (often a close relative) to sign on their behalf. A power of attorney attested by the Pakistan embassy or consulate is usually used for this.
- Haq Mehr and Nikah Nama terms
- Agree the Haq Mehr amount and how it is paid, and any conditions to be written in the Nikah Nama, before the ceremony date.
- Previous marriage records
- If either partner was married before: the divorce (talaq effectiveness) certificate from the Union Council, or the death certificate of the previous spouse.
- Photographs
- Recent passport-size photographs of both partners for the Nikah Nama and registration.

Can I use an online nikah to sponsor my spouse to the USA?
Under US immigration law a proxy or remote marriage is not recognised for immigration unless it was consummated afterwards. Consult a US immigration attorney before filing.
What time should we schedule the nikah from the USA?
Morning in the US usually works best: 9am–12pm Eastern time is 7pm–10pm in Pakistan, when family and witnesses are available.
Which documents do I need from the USA?
Your passport and NICOP (or CNIC), your partner’s CNIC, witness details and, if a wakeel signs for you, a power of attorney attested by a Pakistan consulate.
What documents are needed for an online nikah?
CNIC or NICOP and passport copies of both partners, CNIC copies of two witnesses and the wakeel, passport-size photographs, and a power of attorney if a wakeel signs for the partner abroad. Divorced or widowed applicants also need the divorce or death record.
Will we get a NADRA marriage certificate?
Yes. After the Union Council registers the Nikah Nama, the NADRA computerised marriage registration certificate can be issued. We can also help with MOFA attestation and translation.
