Planning Your Online Nikah from Australia
If the marriage will support a partner visa, ask the Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration agent how a remote or proxy nikah is treated before booking. Australia’s ahead-of-Pakistan time zone makes evening ceremonies in Pakistan late at night in Australia, so plan timing carefully.

Pakistan Embassy & Consulate Services in Australia
The Pakistan High Commission in Canberra and the Consulate General of Pakistan in Sydney provide NICOP, passport and attestation services.
You will need them for your NICOP or passport and to attest the power of attorney that appoints your wakeel in Pakistan.

Using Your Marriage Certificate in Australia
For a partner visa, the Department of Home Affairs asks for the marriage certificate and an English translation by an accredited translator. Confirm how your particular form of marriage will be assessed before you apply.
Online Nikah Requirements for Pakistanis in Australia
The standard checklist for a wakeel nikah in Pakistan. We confirm the final list after reviewing your documents.
- CNIC, NICOP or passport
- Copies of the CNIC or NICOP and passport of both partners. Names and dates of birth should match across documents — differences are easier to fix before the Nikah Nama is filled in.
- Two adult witnesses
- CNIC copies and contact details of the witnesses who will be present at the nikah in Pakistan.
- Wakeel and power of attorney
- The partner abroad appoints a wakeel (often a close relative) to sign on their behalf. A power of attorney attested by the Pakistan embassy or consulate is usually used for this.
- Haq Mehr and Nikah Nama terms
- Agree the Haq Mehr amount and how it is paid, and any conditions to be written in the Nikah Nama, before the ceremony date.
- Previous marriage records
- If either partner was married before: the divorce (talaq effectiveness) certificate from the Union Council, or the death certificate of the previous spouse.
- Photographs
- Recent passport-size photographs of both partners for the Nikah Nama and registration.

What is the best time for an online nikah from Australia?
Afternoon in Pakistan works best: 2pm–5pm in Pakistan is 7pm–10pm in Sydney (or 5pm–8pm in Perth).
Will I need a translation of my Nikah Nama in Australia?
Yes. Home Affairs generally requires a translation by a NAATI-accredited translator for documents not in English.
